Do you ever have just one of those days? You know, where you wake up and things are just off. Nothing seems to click. Small things keep going wrong and they add up to a big pile of frustration. Well, I had one of those days today.
At least it started out that way. The alarm did not go off so I was scrambling to get to Zumba this morning. No coffee. No breakfast. Rushing to brush my teeth and put on my workout clothes. And of course, because I was in a hurry, I hit every red light. Or it felt that way.
I finally pulled up in front of the gym, ran into the fitness studio and said to the women setting up their materials for the next class “They changed the schedule and there is Zumba today….right?”, as my desperation set in. “Nope, they changed it back!” was the snotty reply. (Oh, yes they do get there an hour early to set up their equipment for the next class!) I was really frustrated because I was at the gym about 12 hours earlier and there was absolutely no communication about this schedule change. Grrrr! When/how was I supposed to find out?!?
Well, I had already gone through the hassle to get there so I climbed on the treadmill and begrudgingly made my way through a decent workout. I broke a sweat and lifted some weights. It was better than climbing back into bed. One of the reasons I look forward to Zumba is because it always puts a smile on my face. Even if I miss some of the moves, at least it’s fun. The treadmill is anything but fun for me. I do it because it’s good for me, but it’s hard to enjoy it so my grumpy level was elevated.
When I was finished, instead of stopping at the local coffee shop, I decided to save a few bucks and make my coffee at home. I got out the filters and almost empty coffee grounds (need to add that to my grocery list) and began to make a small pot of deliciousness. As I was measuring out the coffee with a spoon, my hand slipped and they ended up all over the kitchen floor. Arg! I sighed, got down on my hand and knees, and started wiping them up with a wet paper towel. Then, I scooped up the covered rug and took it outside to dust it off. With the kitchen cleaned up I started again.
This time the filter and grounds made it into their appropriate places. I rinsed the pot and began to set it on the heating plate. However, I was coming from the wrong side and – I kid you not – I knocked the basket out and coffee grounds were all over the kitchen again. TWICE!!! By this point I was at my wits end.
It was time for me to step back, regroup, and turn this day around.
So how did I do that? I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I told my hubby to leave the kitchen as it was and I would be back in a minute. I stepped outside and sat still for a few minutes. When I have days like today I try to remember that the Law of Attraction states that positive and negative thinking bring about positive and negative physical results, respectively. If I think things are going wrong, they will continue to go wrong. Remember, misery loves company. Instead I force myself think of the things I am grateful for, the people I love, and how lucky I am.
So the next time you are having a bad day, take a minute to press the pause button. Release the negative thoughts and think about all of the wonderful things in your life. Attract the positive!
And how did the rest of my day end up? Well, with a new sense of calm, I cleaned up the kitchen for a second time, made a slightly weaker pot of coffee than normal (remember I was running low on coffee grounds) and thought my way to a better day. And you know what? Not another thing went wrong all day. I am a firm believer that positive thinking works!
What do you think?
Side note #1: I realize that in the scheme of things my bad day was really trivial. It’s pretty trial for my everyday life too, but there are some days where things like this just get to you.
Side note #2: Sorry for not having any photos in this post. We switched web servers this week and I am pretty sure my hubby forgot to copy over a file so I can’t add them right now. It’s been a busy week for our software business so I am waiting for the right time to ask for help. Should be fixed tomorrow. Cheers!
