Brett and I moved back to Colorado at the beginning of June, but were not able to find an apartment in Boulder right away. In fact, we are not able to move in until this Sunday (July 31st!). Thankfully, we have have some incredible friends with a lovely house about an hour north that have allowed us to crash with them for the past two months and avoid being homeless. Not sure what we would have done without them. Thanks Chris & Mandy!
Because our friends are so great, we wanted to give back and help them out around their house. As any homeowner knows, there’s always a To Do List that you plan to get to “some day”. Brett & I knew working on their To Do List would be fun way to contribute and they would have a hard time saying no. So we picked the basement accent wall project and went to town. Here’s the story of how it turned out…
Chris & Mandy finished their basement a couple years ago, but kept everything very neutral. They were paralyzed when it came time to choose a color and had no idea which wall to paint. It was the perfect project for Brett & I to help with because sometimes all you need to move forward is a little encouragement. Here’s a very bad before photo. (Sorry, I’m still working on my patience when working on a new project. It’s hard for me to remember to take photos at all.)
And, here’s how it turned out…
We chose the farthest wall from the stairs in order to draw you into the space. Then selected a color that would coordinate with a few other pieces of furniture on the other side of their basement. We hung the floating shelves that Chris made – he’s pretty handy – and rounded it out with paintings we crafted and accessories we found around the house or purchased.
We also painted the bar on the other side of the basement. It ties the color throughout the space and looks great against their cabinets.
The best part is that both of our friends love it. And really, that’s all we can ask for!
