I had a wonderful surprise this weekend. On Saturday evening, I received a phone call from my mom saying that her flight was delayed. She and my aunt were flying back to California from Little Rock, Arkansas. They had spent the week visiting family and attending my cousin’s wedding in St. Louis. Their scheduled flight had an hour layover in Denver, just short enough to not make it worth my while to drive all the way to DIA for a quick hello.
But, here’s where it gets good…thanks to a storm going through Denver earlier that day, the plane they were supposed to be on was almost 2 hours delayed. By the time they finally made it to Denver, their flight to California had already taken off.
So, guess what…my mom and aunt were stuck in Denver overnight and we got last minute house guests! It had been since mid-December since I had seen my mom so I was SUPER EXCITED at this turn of events.
It was great! We picked them up from the airport at about 10:15pm and spent a few hours visiting. In the morning we chatted, went out to breakfast, walked around downtown Boulder, and then whisked them back off to the airport. Of course it was too short, but what a treat it was to have any time together at all.
Plus, it was my aunt’s first time to Boulder and the first time my mom had seen our current apartment. And you want to know an extra little bonus? Because they knew they were going to miss their flight before they left Arkansas, I got a few hours heads up to clean! Whoo hoo. No way you can have house guests without a clean bathroom. Whew!
A perfectly serendipitous day!
