Two Secret Hacks You Need to Prioritize Your Goals

I am so excited to share today’s secret hacks that will make it super easy to prioritize your goals! It’s Day 3 of my self-made challenge to record a video along with a blog post. It’s definitely been a challenge, but I love talking about this so it’s totally worth it if I can help you get your dream life.

When you make the decision to make a change in your life or go after a big goal, it is so easy to want the results – like yesterday. Unfortunately, that’s not how goals work. If it was we’d all be rich, skinny, and have housekeepers. *sigh*

After making a big goal, most people will try to run on adrenaline and grit to accomplish those goals. However, willpower will only get you so far. That’s why you struggle to keep New Year’s Resolutions and why I had a hard time sticking to my plans in the past. 

Then I learned how to prioritize my goals in life and things started getting better.

It’s Easy to Prioritize Your Goals with Hacks

How do you know where to start when you just want a better life today? The secret is to look at the 10 major categories in your life and work on the most important thing in each one.

By looking at each of the major categories in your life, you will begin to see a pattern of where you feel confident and where you need to show more love and attention. I first learned about these life categories from Brendon Burchard and his book that talks about the habits of high performers. I highly recommend you check it out. By examining your life, you will gain clarity on what you wish to improve and what is needed to do so.

Hack #1: Rate Yourself in the 10 Major Life Categories

The first hack you need to implement is rating yourself on the 10 major life categories. They are:

  1. Physical Health and Energy
  2. Mission or Meaning
  3. Emotional and Mental Health
  4. Relationship or Love
  5. Family
  6. Friends
  7. Experiences
  8. Spirituality
  9. Financial Health
  10. Learning and Creativity

This self-assessment can be found on page 5 of the Goal Achieving Workbook along with descriptions for each of the categories and the ability to rate how to see yourself performing in each. 

Hack #2: Identify the 1st Step to Take for Each Category

The 10 life categories are great. Rating them gives you a good understanding of where you need to go and if there are any gaps you need to fill. However, when you combine them with the second hack, you really start to see results. 

What is this second hack? It is identifying the one thing that is most important to do first in each area. This concept comes from the book by Gary Keller – The ONE Thing. In it he asks a focusing question, “What is the one thing you can do to move the needle the most so that everything else becomes easier or unnecessary?”

This one thing is going to depend on what you want to accomplish, but I discuss how to narrow this down in today’s video. 

Each of these hacks by themselves are great and will help you get to the next level, but the magic happens when you combine them!

Not only will you be accomplishing bigger wins by focusing on the things that will help you progress the fastest, but you will be improving all areas of your life at the same time.

It’s the ultimate way to start making the dominoes fall in your favor.
