Welcome to a new week! Spring has finally sprung here in Munich and it feels like everyone was out enjoying the nice weather in the parks and biergartens. It reminds me a lot of Chicago – outdoor cafes seem to pop up overnight, people sit in the sun and peel off the layers as they are warmed by the sun, and parents enjoy chatting as their children chase each other in the park.

How was your week? What was the weather like where you are?

After last week’s newsletter when I discussed fear and how I didn’t want to let it hold me back, I accepted a challenge from a friend. My friend Amy challenged me to get in front of the camera so my audience could see me. It’s funny, because while I am not actually that scared of speaking in public, I was very nervous to record videos for YouTube.

But, I looked at it as a way to test out my goals workbook and grow. I took the challenge of recording a video and paired it with another challenge from the Twins Mommy’s Ready, Set, Blog for Traffic course. In the course, Elna talks about how her page views increased by 10K views in one month after doing a week-long video series. Once I heard that, I knew what I wanted to do.

My self-imposed challenge was to record one video each day for 5 day and post it on my blog with a companion post. It was a lot of work.

On the first day, I spent so much time getting the camera set up, testing the mic, and being nervous about how it was going to go. I felt super uncomfortable on camera, but I forced myself to finish. On the second day, it was easier. I already knew the camera set up and so it was more about getting through the discomfort.

By the end of the week, I was actually looking forward to recording the videos! I could hardly believe what a transition I had made in only a few days. The biggest surprise was how much creating the videos helped me write my blog post copy. I felt more creative and in the zone.

What about you? Do you have a challenging task you want to try? What is something you know you should do, but you’re letting fear hold you back?
